How I Lost Close To 100 Pounds Following These Simple Tips

Are you tired of being overweight? Or are you looking for the answer to what the best way to lose weight might be?

3 years ago, I sure was.

I decided to embark on a journey to not only learn the best way to lose weight but to change the way I live my life.

You see, I realized fairly quickly that the reason to why I was overweight was not because I didn't exercise but because my entire lifestyle was completely upside down.

I didn't know how to properly live a life full of enjoyment and fun.

Because of this I have decided after changing my life I want to try and change yours.

So, what is the best way to lose weight? I found it's a combination of exercise and nutrition as much as trying to focus on changing your lifestyle.

Here are 3 tips that I picked up that really helped me lose close to 100 pounds.

#1 Eat Less Carbs
As soon as I stopped eating carbs and focused on eating high-quality protein and fat, my weight started dropping.

But I have to be honest with you guys. Laying off the carbs was harder than I could have ever imagined - It felt as If I was walking around hungry all the time.

But you know what?

I hung in there.

I kept telling myself that this was something I had to do. I had to understand what the best way to lose weight was if I ever wanted to get back on the right track in life. Because somewhere along the road, I had lost it..

#2 A Strategic Workout Plan
I have done little to no exercise in my previous life and this was a big step for me.

Having a regular workout routine is something I will always try and keep up, and one that is recommended by almost all if you want a way to lose weight.

Here's my workout plan:

Monday: Hill sprints (x10)
Tuesday: Strenght training (upper body)
Wednesday: Easy walking
Thursday: Interval Biking - 45 secs 85% followed by 30 sec rest - repeat 15 times
Friday: Strength training (legs, abs)
Saturday: Running, 7km
Sunday: Rest day

This works wonders for me, and was designed by a professional named Alex Brown.

Please note: Initially Alex had designed my workout plan differently. It's only know when I am healthier and in better shape that I am undertaking the above mentioned plan. I recommend to contact a professional before starting any workout plan.

#3 Pictures
Yes, you heard me.. Pictures in all forms, shapes and styles.

I take photos of myself weekly to track my progress. It's great motivation to be able to see myself from week 1, and every time I feel like having some sweets I just look at myself from day 1 and tell myself that I never want to go back to that stage!

Another way I use photos is by having a photo of my dream body next to my bed. This helps me focused on my goal and to achieve great things on a daily basis.

Weight Loss and the Real World

What happens when a new weight loss study is announced is that the media jump on it and you get headlines like:

How to lose weight while chowing down at work

Team sports help teens stay fit

The secret to weight loss? Pen and Paper

Weight-loss keys: Food journals, eating in, not skipping meals

Artificial sweeteners no silver bullet for losing weight

And the whole thing, whether or not it's valuable information, is hyped up and made into something much more than it really is. I've also noticed that much of the research merely provides evidence for what I've known and been teaching for many years now, so I'm not often surprised by the findings.

But let me tell you why this study information sometimes needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

There are four main areas that we need to be concerned with for weight loss:

Non-pharmaceutical weight loss products
Pharmaceutical weight loss products
Behaviour i.e. eating patterns & activity
Fat clubs e.g. Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig...
Non-pharmaceutical Weight loss products

This is the likes of Acai, Hoodia, teas, slimming drinks, patches, and all of the incredibly expensive products provided for people who think the solution to eating too much and not exercising enough is a tablet or a magic drink. This is the territory of the Health-Food shop/web site. Now I have to say I have absolutely no experience with any of these products, so if you've had good results using them, and you've kept the weight off, then let me know below. My gut feeling is that they are a waste of money and sales owe more to the skill of the advertisers than to any efficacy they possess.

Pharmaceutical weight loss products

There are not a lot of pharmaceutical weight loss products around but two are about to receive FDA approval: Belviq and Qnexa. They are both, in my opinion, attempts by the manufacturers to make $ billions rather than any serious attempt at providing a safe weight loss product. The stock of both the manufacturing companies went up through the roof as soon as they passed the first stage of FDA approval. Qnexa was originally rejected by the FDA two years ago, but I understand that the manufacturer spent a lot of money to convince the FDA panel that they should reconsider.

Both drugs contain components from an earlier weight loss drug that was withdrawn for safety reasons, and so they should be causing serious concern about the side-effects. But it seems the FDA is happy for the long-term safety trials to take place after approval. The benefit of using the drugs (in terms of weight lost) is so small when compared with known safe methods that they are just not worth the risk. Nevertheless as soon as they pass the final FDA hurdle (which they undoubtedly will) they will be prescribed in their billions by overworked doctors who will be grateful that they can spend two minutes printing a prescription, rather than providing counselling, education, and advice; alongside real help, support and encouragement.

Behaviour

Behaviour is the area of interest of most of the studies. Psychological studies (and that's what they are) require volunteers. Volunteers need to be informed about the subject area of the study. So you know you are signing up for a weight loss study. In order to do that you have probably given up trying to lose weight without help, and you are probably quite motivated because they are going to ask you to do stuff and you are going to have to comply - because that's what you agree with when you sign up. You are also in it with quite a few other people. You get the attention of the researchers. You get to feel that you are doing something worthwhile and helping others.

All of these things are motivational.

They are also not normal and not found in the real world of people struggling desperately to lose weight.

So, in part, studies are always studying themselves.

They create some circumstances and then test them out.

When you are given a diet plan and told to stick to it for 16 weeks as part of a study - most people will succeed. But give 100 people that same diet plan and never plan to contact them again and you'll find almost no one stuck to the diet for the full 16 weeks, because that's human nature. We behave differently when we know no one is watching and no one is checking up on us.

It doesn't matter what is being studied, we behave differently when we know we are being watched. The most interesting studies are when the participants are lied to. For instance one study pretended to be about testing the flavour of different cookies and that's what the participants thought they were doing, but they were actually being tested on how much they ate based on a drink they'd been given earlier to fill them up. Participants on a diet ate more cookies than those who were eating normally.

The real question that needs to be asked is 'does this work in the real world'.

What seems to work in the real world is eating a little less, exercising a little more, and re-learning to listen to your body.

Fat Clubs

Fat clubs are the socially acceptable places where you go when you want company in your attempts to lose weight. They provide a social environment. Everyone has the same problem. They give you solutions. If you follow their guidelines you lose weight. But I get a lot of clients who've tried these places and they still come to me for help. Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slimming World and the like do help you lose weight, but they use a dieting model, and dieting just doesn't work long-term. You don't sign up to these places for life. You sign up and stay until you either get fed-up with the classes, or reach your goal weight. Then you revert to your old-style eating patterns and before very long you are overweight again - only this time it's much harder to shift the weight.

Low Carb Restaurant Tips

So, you are on a low carb diet and doing quite well. You have accomplished this by adhering closely to the fundamentals and making sure that temptations are minimized. Just when all is going so well, your best friends invites you to dinner.

There is no need to panic. If you follow the steps that I have outlined below, you will have a wonderful dining experience with your friend and have very little impact on your low carb weight loss plan. In fact, why not treat this as a reward for your dieting diligence.

The first thing you must keep in mind is that going to a restaurant will most likely involve an increase in carb intake for that day. You must set your expectation appropriately. Consider the experience a rare guilty pleasure. That said, occasional variances from plan are harmless. So much so that I wouldn't suggest you do anything other than be cautious, ask questions and obviously minimize the high carb choices.

If you can, try to influence that type of restaurant that is chosen. Eliminate the obvious. A steakhouse may be a better choice than a French establishment specializing in cream sauces. A seafood shack just may be more suitable than a pasta house. A casual, local establishment may be more flexible than a chain group. And so on.

Planning ahead can equip you with information that will prove helpful when you order. Go online and check the restaurant's website. Most have them now and include the menu. This gives you a great opportunity to little determine what you will order in advance and having an accurate sense of the total carb intake to expect. If they do not have an online menu, call them. Tell them you are on a low carb weight loss program and would like to speak to someone who could provide suggestions in advance of arriving.

If neither of these approaches are successful, prepare yourself for an on the spot savvy ordering experience.

Once settled into your seat, immediately speak up to the server and let them know of your dieting situation. Ask for their assistance and leverage their experience. Chances are they have dealt with this before and will have appropriate suggestions for you to consider. Also, lean on the chef. Most truly enjoy the challenge of adjusting their service to the needs of their customers. This is particularly true of smaller, local restaurants verse chains. They are usually in a competitive battle for return customers and are more sensitive to the varied dietary requirements today's clientele.

In general, the following are tips that will help you enjoy your experience without faltering too badly:

Stay away from most appetizers. Most are carb laden and are specifically design to increase your appetite not lessen it, hence the term appetizers! The most obvious culprits are the pre-requisite bread stick with oil. Who amongst us can eat just one of these?
The word "crispy" should set off alarms. Short of the chef using grated cheese for the coating, you can bet that bread crumbs are used.
Most entrées include some form of potato side dish. The main course may be very low carb friendly but the side will do you in. Simply tell the server that you do not wish a potato side but would appreciate additional vegetables or ask for suggestions for an acceptable alternative.
As mentioned earlier, beef, chicken, seafood are best choices and are readily available in most restaurants. Be aware that if sauces or other types of toppings are used, carbs will undoubtedly be lurking. Ask for these toppings to be served separately, providing you with the option to add as you wish.
Watch your alcohol intake for two reasons:
Alcohol intake, even in small amounts, reduces inhibitions and sets the stage for you to be less defensive when it comes to appropriate meal choices.
Alcohol, in itself and in most cases, is not an issue with respect to carb count. The type of alcohol and how it is mixed can have an immense affect on carb count though. Just check the carbs in most beers compared to vodka. Compare a whiskey on the rocks verse a blended margarita.
You have been warned.

It would be very easy to say that you must stay away from desserts but, remember that we did suggest that you should consider this trip to a restaurant as a reward of sorts. Now, I am not suggesting that you dive into a triple chocolate cake, nor are we suggesting that you skip dessert all together. Indulge but with control. Enough said about that.
With a little planning, forethought and keeping these low carb restaurant tips in mind, you should be able to enjoy your trip. You will see very little impact on your low carb weight loss efforts at all but have a wonderful time with your friend.

Enjoy!

Losing Weight Using Body Wraps

Are you searching for an effective way to lose weight fast? Do you have a special occasion coming up and need to get in shape fast? Do you have a date in a few weeks and need to straighten your thighs by losing a few inches of fat? Perhaps a friend is getting married and you too will share the limelight and need to be photogenic? There are the traditional weight loss techniques such as extreme exercises, torturous dieting, pills and other unorthodox techniques but if you really want results faster and safely, then you should go with body wraps.

When looking for wraps to use to lose pounds and inches in a short time, one of the most important considerations is the type of wrap to go for. I would suggest that you go for one that has all-natural ingredients. These natural ingredients are very effective in not only getting rid of fats beneath the skin at cellular level but also evenly tone the skin, restore its elasticity and keep it firm and beautiful even after losing the fats. The good thing with this technique is that you get to detoxify at the same time and lose inches of fat with one or two applications.

Another benefit of this technique is that you can use it to lose fats on a specific part of the body - if you have issues with your arms, then you can target the arms with the wrap, if it is your waist, then you will not need to struggle so much with the entire body as you would when dieting or losing weight through exercising. Because this technique works at a cellular level, the results are progressive and permanent. The most common areas that most people target to lose weight with body wraps are legs, chin and face, arms, abdomen and thighs.

A good body wrap is extremely easy to use - you do not even need to have someone to assist you apply. This may depend on the part of the body you are targeting though, but the idea is that it is something you can do yourself at home. There are no special equipment needed - the wraps and the ingredients come as a package and you will be ready to use them. Note that there are different formulas of body wraps - if you have tried one before and it did not work for you or it had undesirable effects, do not just assume that wraps do not work; you should give a try to one that uses natural ingredients.

Most Difficult Weight to Lose: Belly Fat or Pounds Around the Stomach

A flat stomach is a must in any weight loss regimen. Sometimes we acquire belly fat from a pregnancy, sometimes it just creeps up on us as we gain all over weight due to over eating or lack of proper exercise.
Losing belly fat should be a priority not only for improving how we look but for your health as well.

We've all dreamed of having tight, toned stomachs with sexy six-packs,at some time in our lives. Abdominal weight is not only dangerous, it's just unfortunately, the hardest fat to get rid of. For many of us, tummy area seems to be the first place we attract extra pounds, and the last place that we are able to lose pounds.

Don't become discouraged! Here are five proven secrets you can use to get a flatter stomach while you work to reduce that stubborn belly fat.

Flat Stomach Rule #1 - Reduce Overall Body Weight

It is very difficult to achieve spot reduction. That is, you can't lose pounds in your stomach area without losing weight everywhere else.To get the flat belly you want, you'll need to reduce the percentage of your overall body weight. A healthy diet, together with an exercise program that includes aerobic training and some strength training,is the only way this can be achieved.

Research a food plan and exercise routine that you would enjoy. Find diets high in lean protein and complex carbohydrates, plus cardio exercise and strength-training three to five times a week.

Flat Stomach Secret #2 - Fibre and Protein a Must

Snacking on the wrong types of food must be avoided. Filling up on whole grain oatmeal, fruits and vegetables, beans, lean meats, nuts, and olives is the best way to keep your hunger pangs in check!.Omega 3 Fatty acid foods like fish for example, work against the fattening stress hormone- cortisol. Cortisol is mainly responsible for belly fat.

Cortisol sends signals to the body that cause it to go into survival mode, storing weight all over, but particularly around the midsection. Cortisol levels in your body has to be reduced, so it can start to burn up the pounds you have stored, especially around the middle. Relaxation helps to reduce cortisol levels as does eating Omega 3 foods.

Flat Stomach Secret #3 - Exclude Salt and Sugar

Carbohydrates cause us to retain water. This can result in bloating, especially in the tummy area. Salt is another notorious bloat-inducer. Instead of loading up on table salt, try smaller amounts of sea salt, or a salt substitute.

Cutting down on your carbohydrate intake on a daily basis can quickly reduce belly fat. Carbohydrates should come from whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables. These complex carbohydrates help regulate hunger and minimize cravings to help you lose belly bulge.

Flat Stomach Secret #4 - Strengthen Your Core With Regular Sculpting Exercises

After proper dieting to remove the layer of fat that obstructs your abdominal, you can begin some core exercises. When your muscles finally begin to appear, they would be shapely and well formed from the exercise. A strong core will also help you stand and sit upright. Good posture makes you look thinner, and also gives you the opportunity to work your abs by holding them taut as you walk or sit.

It's easy to find a good set of stomach flattening exercise. Not only do they help to get rid of belly bulge, but they also strengthen your core.. Some of them are sit-ups, leg lifts, V-ups, or core tightening pilates, done about three or four times a week. Yoga has several poses which strengthen the core and help you clear your mind of stressful thoughts that stimulate cortisol production - a real bonus for a flat stomach!

Flat Stomach Secret #5 - Drink Water to Flush Pounds Away

Plenty of water is essential for flushing out extra pounds. The fluid you consume actually helps your body get rid of the fluid it's holding on to. So please drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.

Bloating occurs when the body is dehydrated, when the body is dehydrated that's when it becomes bloated. In an effort to preserve its vital fluids, the body holds onto every bit of water it has, resulting in puffiness in the hands and abdomen. It does this to preserve all its vital fluids. The only way to counteract this is to drink enough water to make your body feel safe again, allowing it to flush the retained fluid from its system.

A flat stomach is something you must earn over time, but that doesn't mean you can't make some quick fixes today!

Shop for bloat-busting foods to lose belly weight.

Find a core-strengthening exercise plan that you enjoy to lose stomach bulge.

Drink plenty of water to flush pounds and lose belly bulge.

Standing up tall makes your stomach flatter immediately! You're already making progress toward your goal to lose belly fat and a well toned, younger looking flat stomach.

5 Effective Weight Loss Tips For A Leaner, Sexier You

It's an unfortunate reality that women's bodies tend to store up fat more than men's bodies do, and not to burn fat as readily. This is primarily because a woman's body has higher levels of estrogen, which sends signals to the body to store more fat.

Even with all these things working against us, there are still plenty of ways that women can lose fat. Keep reading, because you're about to learn the top 5 most effective tips you can use to slim down and feel sexier fast!

1. Start Every Day With A Good Breakfast

What makes breakfast the most important meal of the day is that it gets your metabolism moving early in the day, making it more likely that your body will burn off some of those excess fat. Also, since your body hasn't been refueled during the time you've been asleep, eating a hearty breakfast perks you up and makes you feel more ready to take on the day.

A good breakfast should always include something with plenty of fiber to help maintain a healthy digestion.

2. Always Stay Hydrated

Water is a necessary ingredient in the chemical reaction that turns carbohydrates and protein into usable energy, so your body needs plenty of it to function. Plus, water can aid in breaking down fat that's beneath our skin.

3. More Meals, But Smaller Portions

Rather than eating 3 full meals a day, you should plan out your meals such that, you eat a small meal every 2½ to 3 hours. And each of these meals should include a healthy balance of vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats.

The purposes of eating small meals at regularly-spaced intervals include properly managing your body's storage of glycogen, digestion, and appetite with the greatest efficiency possible, while meeting its nutritional needs.

Eating this way doesn't mean you have to starve yourself - in fact, you should make sure you don't! If you do feel hungry during the day, it indicates that your body is running low on one or more essential nutrients. Hence, you should always eat when it's time to eat (every 2½ to 3 hours), whether you're feeling hungry or not.

4. Change Up The Intensity Of Your Workouts

Working out is great, but doing the same activity over and over again, and doing it at the same speed each time, is not the most efficient way to lose weight.

Try varying your routine by doing an interval workout once in a while - the kind of workout where you switch back and forth between high-speed and low-speed activities. Your body actually burns more calories when you move at varying speeds.

5. Get And Stay Well-Rested

Everyone needs at least 6 hours of sleep per night, preferably 7 or 8, to maintain optimal health. Not getting enough sleep can mess with your body's metabolism and ultimately affecting your weight because, if you aren't sleeping enough, your appetite and hunger levels may increase, leading to unwanted weight gain.

Have a flabby stomach which does not go away no matter how much you diet or exercise? Get our expert's advice at UrbaneWomen and start losing weight effectively in record time to fit into that dress you have been admiring for ages!

10 Tips for Cutting Kilojoules

Eliminating those kilojoules (as well as burning more through physical activity) doesn't have to be painful. Starvation and deprivation diets simply don't work. Instead, the little things are what matter. Here are some tips to start you off:

1. Eat Breakfast
Eating breakfast was a key behaviour among people who averaged a 30 kilogram weight loss and kept it off for an average of six years.Skipping breakfast made them feel so hungry that they overate during other meals and snaked on unhealthy foods.

2. Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables
Including more fresh, seasoning fruit and plenty of vegetables will add variety, texture, fibre and vitamins to your diet. Try eating a salad every day, whether it's the main meal or a side salad, with five different vegetables in it. If you prefer cooked vegetables in your salad, lightly steam them for no longer than 2 to 3 minutes, to keep them crisp on the inside and to preserve their vitamin content. And instead of snacking on high-kilojoules, unhealthy foods between meals and eat fruit.

3. Drink more water
To cut kilojoules, you'll need to stop consuming soft drink and also cut down on your tea, coffee, cordial and alcohol intake. Instead, try to drink 1.2 to 2 litres (6 - 8 glasses) of water a day. Fresh vegetable and fruit juices in moderation are also a good way to help bolster your fluid intake.

4. Measure your cereal
The average serving of breakfast cereal is half a cup. Yet most adults tend to pour out at least twice that amount, adding unnecessary kilojoules to daily energy intake.

5. Buy smaller portions
The larger the portion in front of you, the more likely it is that you'll eat it. When you are eating at home, try using a smaller plate and ask for smaller portions when you eat out.

6. Start with soup
Studies show that people who start a meal with soup end up consuming fewer kilojoules by the end of the day without feeling hungrier.

7. Use a smaller plate
Start using a salad plate instead of a dinner plate to encourage smaller portions.

8. Clean your teeth after dinner
Brush your teeth immediately after dinner to stave off late-night snack attacks. (When your mouth feels clean and minty, you're less likely to think about eating)

9. Don't get distracted
Make sure that you are conscious that you've eaten. Make it an occasion by sitting down at a table, preferably with company. Don't eat in front of the television because it tends to be a distraction that reduces meals to a mere habit and the advertisements for pizza, ice-cream, chocolate and other foods may negatively influence your choices.

10. Be yourself
If you live with another person, be it your partner, a flatmate or a friend, it can be hard to stick to your eating plan if everyone else is eating all the things that you're trying to avoid. Women with the children are perhaps the most at risk group in this respect because they are often the ones who prepare meals for the whole family and that can mean accommodating a wide variety of likes and wants. Try to include the whole family in healthy eating to ensure that everyone benefits, as well as improving your chances of sticking to a heart-healthy diet. It's a golden opportunity to educate children on the importance of healthy eating habits for life.

Attitude, The Xfactor To Lose Weight

Have you been on the weight loss merry-go-round and are sick and tired of working hard at getting the body and shape you want, only to see it slip away again, leading you back to where you started or even worst, bigger than before? In utter feeling of dejection and hopelessness, you say to yourself, "I won't be losing weight anymore. It is impossible! " Then you retire with the thought that you will be an obese forever. What a sad plight!

Our actions are usually inspired by our thoughts. Entertaining negative thoughts will certainly cripple us from taking the necessary steps in improving our health, eliminating the unwanted fats and shrinking our waistline. People who resort to quick and instant weight loss claimed by most diet products are heading to frustration. There's no such product that can instantly create a new look for us. The sooner we realize that weight loss needs a lot of patience, determination and the right attitude, the easier for us to change our paradigm. The Xfactor to getting the ideal weight and body measurements is attitude.

How do we attain this? First, change the negativism to positivism. Whatever the mind can conceive, it can definitely achieve. We call it mind conditioning. It is an everyday moral boosting of oneself that you can do it, if you will it. Second, have a healthy diet plan. You must strictly stick to this. The food that you take in plays a major factor in achieving that desired weight and shape. Third, have a workout plan. Burning the calories should be part of the regimen.

Consult a fitness expert to help you get the nice abs, for men and the right curves for women. This may sound very funny though but I tell you, with healthy food and healthy lifestyle, this can be very feasible. Lastly, stay away from the stressors in life. Break off from unhealthy and stressful relationships if you must. Refuse to be drawn into arguments in the office. Create the right atmosphere of losing weight by watching television shows that will inspire you more to lose weight or you will be tempted to go back to your unhealthy food choices.

Your chances of success lie upon you. Positive change creates beneficial results too. There will be times temptations will come your way, most especially during parties. The sight of yummy and delicious treats will certainly test your attitude. Remember, the goal is not only to lose weight; it is the aim to live healthy and survive for many years. Happy eating and healthy living must always go together.

The Baby Food Diet Plan

For those who are always looking for the latest fad diets, diet crazes, and easy ways to lose weight, the baby food diet plan is one of the most recent plans to have hit the diet scene. The plan is extremely easy to follow, it is low cost, and you do not have to buy any pre packaged meals, other than the baby food you are going to be consuming on a day to day basis. This diet plan is going to vary a bit for each dieter, depending on how many normal meals they will be eating each day.

The plan basically works by the individual eating one to three regular meals a day. Instead of eating the three full meals, some dieters will choose to eat one full meal, and will consumer two or three jars of baby food for the other two meals. Additionally, when the individual feels hungry, or would otherwise eat a snack, instead they will consume baby food to help curb their hunger, and to help keep them on track with the diet. There are no set parameters on how many meals the individual should eat each day, but it is suggested that they eat at least one regular (full) meal each day, in order to get in the sufficient amount of nutrients, calories, and proteins needed on a day to day basis.

The baby food diet plan does not have a set limit on how long you follow it, and you will basically do the diet until you reach the amount of weight that you are trying to lose. There are no set exercise parameters in place, due to the fact that it is a fairly new diet, and really does not have any guidelines for individuals to follow while they are on it. There are both pros and cons to following the diet. As far as pros, dieters will find:

- the baby food has no additives, and is natural;

- you are still eating at least one full meal each day;

- it is going to reduce caloric intake each day; and,

- is has worked for those who have tried the diet.

There are also a few cons that have to be considered, namely the fact that the baby food jars are so small, and many dieters may binge when they feel hungry, due to the lack of variety in their diet, and the lack of taste in the foods they are eating each day.

There are really no negatives about the baby food diet plan, and there have been some successes in the Hollywood world, as many celebrities have tried the diet. It can help you lose the weight due to the lower calories, and the fact that you know exactly what you are eating. Over time, it may become a bit bland, and dieters might want to get off the diet, in order to bring in more variety to their meals, and to eat regular, full meals on a normal basis again.

The Benefits of Cardiovascular Exercise and Why It Is Crucial For Weight Loss

Aside from dieting and physical exercise, a major component of any weight loss program is Cardiovascular exercise or commonly known as Aerobic exercise. Aerobic (meaning- with oxygen) exercise is a cardiovascular physical activity that tends to improve respiratory circulation and increase heart rate by about 60 to 80%; thereby increasing oxygen supply to the muscles through the blood stream. It also increases production of HDL (good) cholesterol due to increased oxygen supply in the blood vessels.

Blood stream oxygen supply increases metabolism that helps calories burn faster. In case of aerobic exercises, the increase is 140% faster. Calories are burned during deep breathing, physical activities and during muscle building. But if calories are not burned; it will help store more fats that leads to more weight and obesity. Cardiovascular exercises will also help maintain stronger heart and lungs; likewise stronger muscles and increased bone mass.

Running, jogging, dancing, walking, tennis, golf, skiing, basketball, volleyball, boxing, swimming and others are considered cardiovascular activities. These speed up heart rate that leads to deeper paced breathing and faster metabolism. During these activities endorphins are released by the brain that induces a feeling pleasant well being.

To produce best weight loss results, Aerobic exercise needs to be done at least 30 minutes per session, three times a week; and must be done continuously and not sporadically. Experts suggest letting the muscles rest for about 2 days per session. They also advise that if the body gets used to certain exercises, the body will tend not to react satisfactorily, as it used to be. Aerobic exercises must vary from time to time. Experts also reminded that during the process of losing weight, the muscles must be toned, through resistance training exercises. Skin tends to become loose as your weight drops.

Although an extended session of 30 to 45 is advised for those who want to lose weight fast; this could be substituted by a low intensity walk for 20 minutes the following morning, and a 15-minute swim in the evening- or any similar light exercises.

Cardiovascular exercises, aside from being an effective means of losing weight; also helps to improve your well-being in terms of appearance and health-wise. It is known also to make you feel better.

Cardiovascular exercise after a full meal could result into gastric discomfort. You must allow 1 to 2 hours before you indulge in any aerobic exercise.

Pollutants can also have adverse effects on the body. This is one concern, if you exercise outdoors or near big cities. Some common ones include ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide. Ozone produced by motor vehicle exhausts in combination with ultraviolet light might affect your lungs during exercise.

Hot weather affects the results of the exercise also. Health risk of a cardiovascular exercise increases due to heat stress. If you are new to a hot place, let your body acclimatize for 1 to two weeks first, before doing strenuous exercises. You must tone down on your training while monitoring your heart rate.

Drop Pounds Quickly

What do you think? Can we actually figure it out, how to drop pounds quickly and keep them off? Is getting to a healthy weight something anyone can master, or is it forever to be out of reach?

Well, to tell you the truth, I have had to really pay attention to what I was doing, for most of my life when it came to maintaining a healthy body weight. I mean growing up in my family, dessert was a daily treat, not just a once in a while occurrence. My mother loved to bake and the family as a whole always loved her creations. You know that old school baking from scratch, cakes, cookies, brownies and to this day, I have never eaten a better pie than the ones my Mom used to bake.

Follow that up with college and the dreaded "freshman 15" and no one mentions the potential for accumulation after that from cafeteria food and keg beer. Later on it's having kids and then working and running around with said kids and their schedules. I mean eating well and maintaining an exercise routine can easily go by the wayside. Until suddenly there you are, the kids are grown and along with that, so has your waistline.

But don't give up hope we do not need to resign ourselves to anything. If we truly desire to lose weight and even if it's a need to drop pounds quickly, it can be done! I have been taught that "If you believe it, you can achieve it." We do not hold dreams without the capacity within us to achieve our dreams.

So if it's the goal of dropping pounds quickly that you are hoping to achieve, well then you have got to take action on that. I am sure you have heard that eating well and exercise are how to go after this goal of weight loss. And so do you know what eating well entail? And how about exercise, does that mean committing to and paying for a gym membership in order to get it done?

How do you do it, how do you commit? There are a number of steps, but none of them are insurmountable, though all together they may seem unattainable. Well I believe the first step any of us needs to make, in our quest to drop pounds quickly, is to make up our mind what it is we really want, and then, write it down, commit it to paper, and then paste it up somewhere that you will see your goal regularly. Having your goal in mind, helps to make it more real and therefore more attainable.

And then make a plan, don't go all willy nilly into this, get serious, because anything worth having is worth working toward. And when you discover what works for you, keep with it. Consistency is the one of the best habits to form, none of us is perfect, but maintaining consistency in your plan will ultimately show you the best results. And be patient, but also persistent. Don't give up just because you slip up, we are all human, and nobody is perfect. Be patient with yourself, and stick with your plan, you can do it, I know you can!

The Best Types Of Exercises To Lose Belly Fat

Here's one lie that won't die...

"In order to lose fat, you must do isolated exercises to target that area."

For example, if you wanted to lose your belly, you'd be led to believe that you need to do tons of exercises that just target your abs or buy some silly ab belt.

But, here's the truth...

Isolated exercises are a waste of your time!

In fact, this lie is usually spread so you can buy that new gadget or fill up some spaces in that new ab attack class.

You see, doing isolated exercises will not help you burn fat as fast or effectively as doing compound exercises (movements that target multiple muscle groups).

Now, if you want to incorporate the most effective fat-burning exercises into your routine, here are some guidelines to follow:

Choose exercises that work multiple muscle groups at a time.
Choose exercises that require you to do them while standing, when possible. Or do the standing alternative of the exercise instead.
Put the hardest and most intense exercises first in your routine.
Now, here's the good news...

Doing workouts with exercises like this will allow you to work out less, but still burn more fat!

Here's why.

Performing a workout like this allows your whole body to be used. This will double the amount of calories you'll burn after a workout. Plus, the effectiveness and efficiency of this type of workout means you'll only have to work out 3 days a week (45 minutes or less).

This is a far shorter time commitment than the typical workout programs out there. Therefore, making it perfect for the normal, busy person to follow through and actually see results.

So here is an example of a workout you might create that follows the above guidelines:

Hindu Squats (Most intense first) - 10 reps
Hindu Pushups - 8 reps
Calf Raises - 10 reps
Decline Pushups - 8 reps
Stability Ball Jackknife - 15 reps
Back Extension on Ball - 15 reps
Ideally, you'd perform each pair (#1 & #2, #3 &#4) for a total of three times before moving onto the next pair.

As far as rest goes, you'd only rest after the second exercise in each pair.

Then you'd complete this strength-training portion of your routine with interval training. This will allow for maximum fat-loss.

Hope this helps.

Free Strategies on How to Lose Weight Fast Without Having to Diet

When it comes to weight loss, there are several different schools of thought. There is the faction that advocates exercise over all other strategies. There are also those who feel that diet, and dieting techniques, are the most important factors involved. There are also people who feel that drugs and chemicals (diet supplements, dietary aids, medications etc.); both over-the-counter and by prescription, produce the best results.

In fact, a combination of all of these approaches is needed to really bring about any kind of positive effect. It also depends how much one is actually overweight. In extreme cases, surgical procedures may be the only remedy. This article is mainly geared to address the weight issues faced by those who are seeking to lose 10-20 pounds, or maybe reduce 4-5 inches off of their waistline.

In starting out on your weight loss journey, it is important to set goals, bu tit is equally important to allow for flexibility, especially in the beginning stages. The only thing worse than getting frustrated at failure is to allow that frustration to completely eliminate your desire.

You must always remember that no one is judging you except yourself. You should also keep in mind that it is more conducive to your success (again, especially in the beginning stages) to allow yourself to fail, and to be more lenient in your own judgment. Do not set goals which are too low, but be aware of the difficulties that you will face and plan accordingly. The last thing you want to do is to quit out of frustration because you have set your goals too high or you are judging yourself too harshly.

As previously mentioned, diet, exercise, and medication should all be utilized in some combination. However, while there may be many substances available which are highly effective, probably the best method is simply the common-sense approach of EATING LESS AND EXERCISING MORE!

While this may seem almost insulting in its simplicity and obvious benefits; not to mention the fact that it is much easier said than done, the importance of burning more calories than you take in cannot be overstated. If one is to take their weight loss seriously, a general knowledge of the amount of calories in each meal that they are ingesting is vital. In addition, an approximate value of how many calories are burned with whatever activities and exercises an individual is undertaking is also helpful to the cause.

While this basic tenet is the absolute foundation of any weight-loss program, it certainly does not hurt to expand upon this first step toward your goal. If you would like more information on various strategies for losing weight,

Is Protein The Key To Long Term Weight Loss?

I've been doing so much cooking lately while I'm designing recipes for my meal plans that I've been thinking about the most important principles of eating for health.

At the same time I have been writing the content for my blog series on losing weight. So I've decided to tie it all together to talk about the important of protein in weight and health management.

Proteins are the building blocks to life. In the body they are responsible for:

Building tissues and muscles
Building neurotransmitters and hormones (helping with mood, memory and feeling good)

Used in Repair of tissues
But in addition to these essential functions, I find protein consumption can be very beneficial in terms of weight loss.

The best protein sources are correctly portioned beans/lentils, low fat dairy, nuts and seeds and lean meats such as chicken and turkey and fish.

Plant based protein such as beans/lentils and nuts/seeds can be full of health promoting fibre. Choosing leaner and lower fat animal sources of protein can reduce the amount of saturated fat consumed.

So why can protein be good for weight loss?

Firstly, protein can help you feel satisfied after a meal. This can lead to a reduction in unhealthy snacking a few hours after a meal.

Secondly, protein is quite a difficult substance to breakdown. When mixed with carbohydrate, it can slow the release of sugars into a system, keeping your energy levels balanced.

It is normal for people to have protein with their dinner - perhaps some meat, fish or beans. However, people are less likely to have protein to their breakfast or lunch. Try it yourself. Add a source of protein to your breakfast such as an egg, some yogurt or some nuts and seeds and FEEL the difference in our energy levels later in the day. It really helps.

I got a huge response from posting this photo the other day so will add this balanced recipe as a meal option. This is a great weekend breakfast or a cool summer's evening supper. Enjoy!

Baked Beans Hot Pot

2 spring onions - sliced
1 clove garlic - crushed
2 cups of cherry tomatoes - halved
1 cup of passata (if you don't have just add a dash of water instead)
1tbsp of tomato paste
1/2 tin of haricot beans (washed and drained)
100g baby spinach(washed and drained)
1 egg
1 handful of grated parmesan

Chop the onions and garlic and set aside for 5 minutes before cooking.
Saute the onions in a little water in a large frying pan. Keep the heat on medium.
Add the garlic and stir for a minute.
Add the cherry tomatoes and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
Then stir in the tomato paste and the passata, along with the beans. I season with a little salt and pepper at this point.
Cook for 5-10 minutes. If you feel its getting a little dry, add some water.
Add the spinach and stir through. Make a small hole in the centre.
Crack in the egg into the little hole and cover with the parmesan.
Put under a hot grill for about 5 minutes and serve straight away.

If you are dairy intolerant, you can remove the egg or parmesan and it is just as tasty.

Weight-reduce

One of the biggest problems for many people is the roll of fat that they carry around their waist. Actually, in many cases it's much more than just a roll. It's unsightly and most people hate it and wish they could get rid of it. But ugliness isn't the real problem. The real problem is that it is very unhealthy and can lead to a number of diseases and even early death.

Let me begin by pointing out that all fat is not the same. There are two types referred to as subcutaneous and visceral. The subcutaneous variety is likely the one that you complain about the most, but it's not the dangerous kind. When you reach down to your waist and grab a roll of fat you're grabbing the subcutaneous kind, and although it's not a nice sight, it's unlikely to kill you. It's the fat you can't see - the visceral fat - that does the damage, and it's buried deep in your abdomen, inside your rib cage. It's the fat surrounding your vital organs including your heart. And it does add to your pot-belly; in fact, it's the main fat that creates it, but you can't see or feel it directly so many people don't worry about it.

If it just sat there it wouldn't be too much of a problem, but it doesn't. Visceral fat isn't inert; it is, in fact, biologically active, so it acts like an "organ" - one of the larger ones in your body, and like other organs it secretes various substances. Some of these are leptin (appetite suppressor) and cytokines such as interleukin that can produce chronic inflammation, and it can trigger cortisol which also produces inflammation.

Reason Why Visceral fat is So Bad

Visceral fat is particularly bad because it leads directly to high LDL cholesterol and low HDL - something you don't want. It is, in fact, part of what is called the metabolic syndrome -- a major risk for heart disease and stroke. The metabolic syndrome is a combination of the following:

Insulin resistance
High blood glucose
Excess visceral fat
Poor cholesterol levels
High blood pressure
Insulin resistance occurs when your muscles and liver don't respond correctly to normal levels of insulin, which forces your pancreas to create too much. As a result, the glucose (sugar) levels in your body rise to levels higher than they should be.

In addition to being part of the metabolic syndrome, visceral fat can also cause:

Diabetes II
Cancer
Dementia
So it's obviously something you want to get rid of, not just because it doesn't look good.

How Do We Know When We Have Too Much Visceral Fat?

The easiest way is to measure the size of your stomach, or more exactly, the size of your waist. For years the standard measurement was the waist-to-hip ratio. For it you use a flexible tape and measure the distance around the narrowest part of your waist (above your hips). The ratio (waist/hips) should not be over 0.8 for women, and 0.9 for men.

To some degree this measurement has been superseded in recent years. Doctors and therapists have found that a simple measurement of the waist is sufficient. Their guidelines are a waist of less than 35 inches for women and less than 40 inches for men.

What is the Best Way to Get Rid of This Fat

If you've tried to lose weight, you know it can be frustrating. Your body always seems to fight back. First of all, it puts almost all excess weight around your waist. When you gain weight, it's the first place you notice a difference, but when you take weight off, it doesn't come off the waist first; in fact, it comes off here last. In other words, your body gives "orders" as to what it wants to do, and there's not too much you can do about it. This also shows up when you try to "fast" or go on a very low calorie diet to lose a lot of weight rapidly. It won't work: your body will rebel and cut back on your metabolism so you won't end up losing nearly as much as you expected. And the reason it can do this is that it is an organ, not just a bunch of fat cells.

So let's look at the best way to lose the fat. Over the years many "gimmicks" have been put forward for losing belly fat: belts, gliders of various sorts, balls and so on. Some of them are helpful to a small degree, but when it comes down to it the best way to lose fat is still: exercise and diet. There's no getting around it.

Let me say right off, though, that "spot reducing" doesn't work. And this means that the two best known exercises for reducing your waist, namely, sit-ups and crunches, are not of much help. They'll help strengthen your abs but they won't do much for the fat on top of them (or under them), and this is the fat you want to get rid of.

As you likely know, there are two different types of exercise: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise uses oxygen; its main function, in fact, is getting oxygen to your muscles. It includes: getting blood to your muscles, extracting oxygen from blood, and getting oxygen into the muscle tissue. Typical aerobic exercises are walking (one of the best), jogging, cycling and swimming. Aerobic exercises increase your heart beat, and it's important to get it in the proper range if you want to lose fat. So aerobic exercises are the key.

But anaerobic exercises are also important. The major anaerobic exercise is weight lifting. Weight lifting strengthens and enlarges your muscles and this is critical; it increases your metabolism which will help burn your calories faster. Indeed, after a good exercise session that includes weight lifting you will continue to burn calories at an increased rate for hours.

For weight training you should concentrate on the large muscles (and not you abs). They are: thighs, chest, buttocks, back, arm muscles. Some good exercises are: bench presses, squats, dumbbell presses and flyes.

Two Critical Things that Maximize Fat Loss

When you do your exercises makes a big difference. You want to maximize the fat loss for a given effort. To this end it's important to remember that the carbohydrates and some of the fat you eat is turned into glucose in your body. It's what gives you energy to do your daily activities. Some of this food is also turned into glycogen, which is stored sugar that can be used later when needed. What you want is to catch your body when it is low on glucose and glycogen. When this happens it will reach deeper into your body for its fat reserves and use them for energy.

So, when is glycogen the lowest? It is being used up all day and night and since you don't eat anything overnight it's at its lowest level first thing in the morning. So do your aerobic exercises when you first get up. Another time when they are relatively low is after you have done your anaerobic exercises (weight training). So concentrate on these two times.

Another thing that helps to maximize fat loss is "interval training". It's used extensively by runners, and it is the quickest and best way to get into shape fast. Furthermore, it's the best way to lose fat fast. The idea is to vary your pace when you are walking or running. In other words, start out slow, then gradually increase to as fast as you can go, then slow down, and after a few minutes increase again. Go through this cycle several times.

What to Eat

Exercise is, of course, only part of what you need to do to lose fat. You also have to eat properly. At the top of your list should be complex carbohydrates, namely, vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes. Some of the best veggies are: broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, cabbage and beats. Some of the best fruits are: citrus, grapes, bananas, peaches, pears, plums and apricots. Berries such as blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are also great. Finally, whole grains, seeds and nuts are helpful. Some of the best of them are: oatmeal, whole wheat cereal, flax and pumpkin seeds and almonds and walnuts.

At the same time it is, of course, important to avoid foods that will add fat: cookies, cake, pie, sweets, any processed food, fried foods, and anything containing saturated or trans fats. Also avoid soda pop.

And last but not least, drink lots of water - at least 8 glasses a day.

How Not To Fail At Weight Loss

Many people on weight loss programs don't seem to be making any progress. They are at a loss as to why their diet isn't working. There are many reasons for this.

Making your diet work is like planting a garden. You need good soil and proper planning for it to grow. All to often diets stall for just these reason.

Taking weight loss serious is the most important thing you need to do. You must prepare yourself mentally so that you can stay focused on losing weight.

Make a commitment to lose weight, no matter what. You can't lose weight to please someone else. You must do it for yourself. Take the "I will" approach to weight loss. By saying you are going to try to lose weight, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Being inconsistent with your diet is yet another problem that leads to failure. Many of us eat properly during the week, then splurge on the weekends. A proper diet requires consistency in order to succeed. Those small snacks that you're eating on a regular basis add up and you soon find that your diet has failed.

Many people think that they can purchase healthy foods and lose weight but end up eating twice as much. This practice will not only result in no weight loss but most likely weight gain. Eating vegetables in their natural form is the best way to lose weight. Avoid eating processed foods at all costs.|

When on a weight loss program, your body requires that you flush if of all the unwanted toxins. It is vital that you drink plenty of water to complete this process. Research has determined that eight or more glasses of water everyday works best for completing this process.

Physical activity is paramount to losing weight. The choices of activities that you can participate in are limitless. A daily routine consisting of 20 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise is great for burning calories.

If you have reduced your caloric intake and you still aren't losing weight, chances are you aren't getting enough exercise.

Too much exercise can also create problems. Overdoing your exercise routine may send your body into an anaerobic state. This means your body is burning carbs rather than fat.

Try to maintain a heart rate of no more that 85% of your maximum for approximately 20 minutes. By doing this you will throw your body into an aerobic state, burning fat instead of carbs.

Getting enough rest with today's fast paced lifestyle is an issue for many of us. Often, not getting proper rest can bring your weight loss program to a screeching halt.

Focus and consistency are a must when attempting to lose weight. Often major events such as trying to stop smoking or illness can lead to the downfall of many weight loss programs. Try to keep life as simple as possible so you can remain focused on your goal.

Last but not least, set realistic weight loss goals. Having an unattainable goal will almost certainly lead to the downfall of your program.

Weight loss becomes much easier once you master these principles.

Rapid Weight Loss - Good or Bad?

If you're like most people who want to achieve fat loss, you want to reach your dream body - yesterday. You don't want to wait six months to 'take things slow', but rather, you want to be done with this dieting business once and for all.

You want results and you want results now.

If this speaks your language, it's time to rethink your approach. Far too many people get caught up in crash diets that promise ultra-fast results, but have little chance of ever helping you maintain that goal weight you're looking to achieve.

So let's take a quick peak right now at why rapid weight loss isn't the best route to take and why the slow and steady approach, at the end of the day, is actually the fastest route to true weight loss success.

Loss Of Lean Muscle

The very first reason why you should avoid rapid weight loss is because of the fact that losing weight too quickly is almost going to guarantee you that some of that weight will be muscle mass loss. When you are dropping pounds by the week, you're either losing water or lean tissues because your body thinks its starving and will be holding on to body fat with everything that it's got.

This is not the way to an attractive body.

Slowed Metabolism

The second reason to avoid rapid weight loss is because it's going to significantly slow down your metabolism. To achieve rapid weight loss you will have to use a very low calorie diet and your body will adapt quickly to this. When you're hardly feeding yourself any calories, the body knows it's time to conserve fuel and as such, will cause your metabolism to slow to a c-r-a-w-l.

This doesn't bode well in the war against the bulge. The best way to fast weight loss results is to maintain the fastest metabolic rate so that you can burn fat all day long.

Nutritional Deficiency

Finally, the last reason why rapid weight loss isn't the best choice to go is because it will set you up for nutritional deficiency. If you're only consuming 1,000 calories per day (or somewhere around that mark), you won't be taking in a good variety of foods and meeting all your nutritional requirements.

Over the long term, this could set you up for serious health issues.

Slow And Steady Wins The Race

So rethink your approach. Those who take things slower and put in the time and effort to do it correctly will actually reach their goals faster because of the fact they won't lose weight and the regain it right back as soon as they fall off their diet - and let's face it, those crash diets are impossible to stick with for more than a week or two at a time.

Be smart, have patience, and work hard. That is what will get you to your end goal.

Achieving Long Term Weight Loss

In my nutrition clinic, most people coming to see me have an issue with their weight. Whether they are attending due to heart health, bone health or digestive problems, I find that weight loss is also one of their key health goals. I work with individuals to lose an achievable amount of weight over an achievable amount of time.

One of the main areas that I find people put on weight is around their belly. This type of weight gain can be the most harmful for health but also can be easy to shift, once you know how.

One of the most important areas of weight loss is balancing your blood sugar levels. Processed carbohydrates, such as white bread, white pasta and white rice, tend to absorbed quickly into the blood stream, causing a spike in your blood sugar levels. This causes the body to release insulin, whose primarily role is to take the sugar from the blood quickly and, if consumed in excess, store it as fat.

Therefore, choosing slow release carbohydrates are more beneficial for health and for weight loss, e.g brown rice, pasta and breads, oats, etc. The advantage of these carbohydrates is that they take a lot longer to break down, keeping you fuller for longer as they also contain more fibre, reducing your cravings and helping your digestive system.

As carbohydrates act as our energy source during the day, our breakfast and lunch should contain a portion of carbohydrates, e.g. 1/2 - 3/4 cup of oats, cooked rice or cooked pasta. Many people wanting to lose weight try to cut carbohydrates out from all meals. This leaves them hungry and craving for sweeter foods. However, for the evening meal, it is possible to reduce or eliminate carbohydrates to assist weight loss. See below for a lower carbohydrate evening meal.
